Shari Beattie is our bowling coach. Life-long bowler, third-year coach of the boys and girls varsity teams. Former middle and high school teacher, I presently teach yoga. The coaching position at Austin came as an unplanned blessing, when, after my daughter’s freshman year on the team, the coach did not return. I read, took classes, used my education background, and hired a PBA pro to help me. The teams continue to expand—each year approximately 1/4 of the entire school population bowls—as they become more competitive. To be able to watch my Austin bowlers grow as athletes, teammates, leaders, and human beings makes this the best job I almost didn’t have.
